From low-code to API-first: deprecating the Workflow Builder

Paradym's goal has always been to make working with verifiable credentials as easy as possible. Initially, to achieve this goal, Paradym launched as a low-code workflow builder. Those of you who have followed along are well aware of our discovery process in recent months that Paradym builders needed more customizability and flexibilty. Which we delivered in the form of the Paradym API, launched in April 2024.

Since its launch, the API has been a huge success. It has enabled developers building with Paradym to build exactly what they want to build, without having to worry about infrastructure. The Paradym API supports multiple decentralized identity tech stacks, mainly SD-JWT VCs over OpenID4VC and AnonCreds over DIDComm, with both cheqd and did:web supported as verifiable data registries. Such a success, that we are now officially deprecating the workflow builder.

To prepare for the deprecation we have:

  • Added support for AnonCreds/DIDComm and cheqd to the API to ensure feature parity.
  • Built a Zapier integration that will enable no-code integrations with almost any popular software.
  • Released a TypScript SDK to make it easier to work with the API.
  • Aligned with individual users about their migration path.

As we have been working to make Paradym an API-first product, it has become especially important to offer more options to use that API effectively. Now, you can choose a way to use Paradym that suits your project and requirements.

New features will be added in the API first and then, if it has added value, to the dashboard. The Paradym dashboard is now no longer the place to build workflows, but to:

  • Create/manage credential and verification templates.
  • See your agent activity
  • Manage webhooks and API keys
  • Manage your profile and project settings
  • Manage your multiple projects

In the future we're expanding the dashboard even more to become a companion to the API, with insights and logs.

We're very excited about this direction for the Paradym platform, as it means that more energy and focus can go to getting the newest standards and protocols usable. Do you have questions? Ideas? We’d love to hear them in the Paradym Community Slack!
