Digital identity services for QTSPs

March 5, 2025

A QTSP with different services surrounding it.

The upcoming eIDAS 2.0 legislation, and the accompanying national EUDI implementations will have big consequences for QTSPs. A Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) is an entity that has been granted qualified status under the eIDAS Regulation, meaning it meets the highest level of security and compliance standards for providing trust services. These services include electronic signatures, seals, timestamps, website authentication, and electronic registered delivery services. QTSPs are critical in enabling secure and legally recognized digital transactions across the EU, ensuring trust and interoperability between businesses, governments, and individuals.

With the eIDAS 2.0 framework, QTSPs will expand their role even further by becoming essential players in the European Digital Identity (EUDI) ecosystem. Specifically, they will be responsible for issuing Qualified Electronic Attestation of Attributes (QEAAs)—verifiable credentials that allow individuals and organizations to prove attributes such as professional qualifications, legal status, or residency in a trusted digital format. This expansion will position QTSPs at the core of secure identity verification and digital wallet ecosystems, ensuring compliance with evolving European regulations and enhancing cross-border digital interactions.

We believe that Paradym can take on an essential part for QTSPs looking to offer eIDAS 2.0 related trust services. Paradym is already designed to meet the technical requirements of digital identity services under eIDAS 2.0. Our scalable and production-ready architecture provides a framework for issuing and verifying (Qualified) Electronic Attestation of Attributes (QEAAs) while aligning with the Architectural Reference Framework (ARF).

Key features of Paradym for QTSPs include:

  • Full compatibility with European trust models: We are actively implementing foundational support for the evolving European trust framework.

  • Support for OID4VC, SD-JWT VCs, and all standards named in the Architecture Reference Framework. We ensure alignment with the ARF and industry standards for verifiable credentials.

  • Seamless integration with EUDI Wallets. Our team is testing and developing the EUDI Wallet prototype for Germany, meaning that the solution is continually tested against European Member State solutions.

  • On-premise deployment capability. Paradym can be deployed as a self-managed solution, making it easier to deal with audits and security measures.

  • ISO-27001 certification in progress. We are committed to obtaining needed certifications to simplify audits and compliance for QTSPs. These also include required ETSI standards.

  • Later this year, we will extend our services to cloud wallets, including organizational wallet solutions. Meaning that a QTSP can offer any EUDI functionality related to the eIDAS 2.0 legislation by using the Paradym platform.

Especially the coming years, while the new legislation takes practical shape, building the services related to EUDI will require a large investment of resources. Supporting different draft versions, dealing with the interoperability issues of 27 members states, and fixing the endless amount of teething issues that will arise. Our infrastructure can serve multiple roles within an organization, whether for issuers, cloud wallets, organizational wallets, or relying parties. Paradym offers all digital identity services in one reliable build.
