Austria has strong live national identity infrastructure and direction for EUDI. The EUDI-specific wallet is currently being tested. ID Austria and eAusweise are production services for identification and domestic digital proofs, while A-SIT Plus' Valera Wallet is a technology demonstrator for EUDI-style issuance, presentation and signing.

Under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, every EU member state must offer citizens a European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. Austria is not starting from scratch: ID Austria is already live as the national electronic identity, and eAusweise already carries domestic digital proofs such as driving licence, vehicle registration, identity proof, age proof and student ID.

How does the EUDI Wallet work in Austria?

Austria is evolving its existing digital identity stack toward the EUDI Wallet rather than starting from a separate EUDI Wallet app. ID Austria provides electronic identity and qualified signature capabilities, eAusweise carries domestic digital proofs such as driving licence, vehicle registration, identity proof, age proof and student ID, and A-SIT Plus' Valera Wallet is used as the EUDI technology demonstrator. Over time it is expected these solutions will merge to deliver a full EUDI ready solution to Austrian citizens.

What is ID Austria?

ID Austria is Austria's official electronic identity and the successor to Handy-Signatur. It is live for secure login to public and private services and for qualified electronic signatures, and it is the identity layer that eAusweise uses to load digital proofs.

What is Valera Wallet?

Valera Wallet is the open-source A-SIT Plus wallet app used in Austria's EUDI demonstrator environment. The A-SIT Plus wallet site explicitly describes Valera and its wallet services as technology demonstrators, with demo issuing, relying-party and signing services for OpenID4VCI, OpenID4VP, HAIP and related EUDI profiles.

Can I verify Austrian EUDI Wallet credentials with Paradym today?

Yes. Paradym supports verification flows for EUDI credentials today. End-to-end testing with the national wallet depends on that wallet being available and exposing the relevant credentials.

Can I issue credentials to ID Austria today?

Yes. Paradym supports EUDI-style issuance over OpenID4VC today. Production acceptance by the national wallet depends on the wallet rollout, trust framework and supported credential types.
