Belgium in the EUDI ecosystem

Belgium has a production government app in MyGov.be that combined with the national eID / itsme identity ecosystem will take the role of the EUDI app.

Under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, every EU member state must offer citizens a European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. Belgium has MyGov.be, a production government app for official documents, eBox, certificates and personal data, that will be extended to comply with EUDI standards and regulations. The established eID card scheme and widely adopted itsme app remain important parts of the national identity ecosystem.

With Paradym you can prepare issuance and verification flows for future Belgian identity and document credentials.

Common questions

How does the EUDI Wallet work in Belgium?

Under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, Belgium must provide an EUDI Wallet. MyGov.be is already live as a government app for documents, eBox, certificates and personal data. Users authenticate using either the Belgian eID or itsme. Once activated, MyGov.be functions as a secure government wallet for official digital documents. The user can share personal information with relying parties by consenting to share data from the app.

What is itsme?

itsme is a private digital identity app from Belgian Mobile ID, used by a large share of the Belgian population for login, identity verification and signing. It remains important in Belgium's identity ecosystem, while MyGov.be is the government app most directly tied to the public wallet route.

Is Belgium's national EUDI Wallet live yet?

Not as a full EUDI Wallet with PID based on the official MyGov.be description. MyGov.be is live, but identity card, driving licence and certificate wallet capabilities are described as gradually enhanced future functionality.

Can I verify Belgian EUDI Wallet credentials with Paradym?

Paradym supports verification flows for EUDI-style credentials. However, end-to-end testing with the national wallet depends on that wallet being available and exposing the relevant credentials, as there is currently no available Belgian wallet it is not possible to verify credentials from that wallet.

Can I issue credentials to the Belgium EUDI Wallet with Paradym?

Paradym can issue standards-compliant EUDI credentials today, but those credentials cannot currently be issued into the Belgium national wallet through a public production integration. Once Belgium opens its issuer ecosystem as part of its EUDI rollout, Paradym's issuance APIs can be used to issue credentials to Belgium wallet, subject to any national onboarding, trust framework, and certification requirements.
