Denmark in the EUDI ecosystem

Denmark has publicly launced AltID in June 2026. AltID lets users store digital credentials in one place, with the first credentials being a Photo ID card and Proof of Age.

Under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, every EU member state must offer citizens a European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. Denmark's route is AltID, the official app for IDs and credentials from the Danish Agency for Digital Government. AltID is available as a public app to people over 13 who have MitID and a Danish CPR number. The app is tied to MitID, Denmark’s national eID system, which remains the login and authentication infrastructure and is used for onboarding in the wallet.

The wallet stores credentials locally on the phone and is positioned around data minimisation, so a user can prove a fact such as an age threshold without sharing broader identity data. With Paradym, you can prepare issuance and verification flows for use cases that involve the Danish wallet.

Common questions

How does the EUDI Wallet work in Denmark?

Denmark's wallet is AltID, the official app for IDs and credentials from the Danish Agency for Digital Government. Users need MitID and a Danish CPR number to onboard, after which they can receive digital credentials. When a relying party request data from the user, they can use AltID to consent and share this data with the relying party.

What is AltID?

AltID is Denmark’s official app for digital identity and credentials. It lets Danish users store and present official credentials, starting with identity and age credentials. The Photo ID / Proof of Identity can include name, address, CPR number, place of birth, and nationality, while Proof of Age lets a user prove an age threshold without sharing personal details.

Can I verify Danish wallet credentials with Paradym today?

Yes. Paradym supports verification flows for credentials currently available in AltID. You can create a template in the platform with exactly the information you want to verify, for example the proof of age available in AltID, which you'll be able to trigger through the Paradym API.

Does AltID replace MitID?

No. MitID remains Denmark's national login and authentication infrastructure. AltID uses MitID for onboarding and then lets users store and present credentials from their phone.

Is AltID compliant with eIDAS 2.0?

AltID is being rolled out in stages to meet eIDAS 2 requirements. The first release is narrow, focused on proof of age and photo ID, while broader wallet functionality and compliance / certification is expected to come over time.
