France in the EUDI ecosystem

France has a live citizen wallet in France Identité. Eligible citizens can use the app with EUDI-compatible credentials, while France also maintains a dedicated playground for verifier, issuer and interoperability testing.

Under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, every EU member state must offer citizens a European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. In France this is led by France Identité, the government wallet from France Titres / ANTS, and reinforced through EU large-scale pilots such as POTENTIAL and APTITUDE. France shows it progress publicly through the UNFOLD marketplace and events.

France Identité is live for eligible citizens and supports EUDI-compatible identity proofs, FranceConnect authentication, digital driving licence, vehicle registration and certified identity flows. France also exposes an EUDI Playground for wallet, verifier, issuer and interoperability testing. With Paradym you can verify credentials from the French EUDI Wallet.

What is France Identité?

France Identité is the official French digital identity app. It is available to eligible users with the new bank-card-format national ID card and a compatible NFC phone, supports FranceConnect authentication, and includes functions such as digital driving licence, one-time identity proof and certified digital identity.

How does the EUDI Wallet work in France?

Under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, every EU member state must offer a European Digital Identity Wallet. In France this role is led by France Identité, the government wallet. Citizens import their French CNIe via NFC, activate France Identité, and can then use the phone/app as a high-assurance identity means. When a citizen needs to share identity information, the relying party shows a QR code, the user scans it in the France Identité app, consents, and the app shares the approved identity/authentication with the relying party.

How do I verify someone's age with the France Identité wallet?

With Paradym you create a verification template that requests an age-over-18 (or other age) proof and present it as a QR code or deep link for France Identité wallet users. The user then scans the QR code and consents to share proof of their age through the France Identité app.

Can I issue credentials to France Identité with Paradym?

Paradym can technically issue EUDI-style credentials such as SD-JWT VC or mdoc via OpenID4VCI into the French EUDI Wallet. However, actual issuance by a private party into the official wallet is not supported until France Identité opens access to the relevant issuance/trust channel.

Is France Identité eIDAS 2.0 compliant?

France Identité is aligned with the EUDI Wallet architecture and France has been central in large-scale pilots such as POTENTIAL and APTITUDE. The citizen wallet is live for eligible users, while certification, governance and cross-border interoperability continue to mature. France Identité is recognised/certified at eIDAS high level for electronic identification. France Identité says ANSSI certified it as eIDAS high assurance, and the European Commission’s eID community page lists “France Identité” with level of assurance High.
