The Dutch EUDI Wallet is currently in development and testing some closed use-cases. The NL Wallet has public code, docs and design material, with use cases such as age proof, government identity checks, diploma sharing, ID card and driving licence expected as the ecosystem matures.

Under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, every EU member state must offer citizens a European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. In the Netherlands this is the NL Wallet, built by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) as an open public implementation with GitHub, documentation and design material available.

The NL Wallet is the Netherlands' national EUDI Wallet, built by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK). It is publicly developed with open GitHub, documentation and design material. The national act implementing eIDAS 2.0, which is needed to supervise and certify the NL Wallet, will not be in place by the 24 December 2026 deadline. The government expects it to go to consultation at the end of 2026 and to enter into force in 2028, depending on the parliamentary process.

How does the EUDI Wallet work in the Netherlands?

The Netherlands is building the NL Wallet, its national European Digital Identity Wallet under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation. It is led by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) and is publicly developed through open code, documentation and design material.

What is the NL Wallet and who runs it?

The NL Wallet is the official Dutch EUDI Wallet. It is developed as open source by ICTU and Logius on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), and RvIG supplies the personal data for its PID from the Personal Records Database (BRP). It builds on the Netherlands' existing eID context, where DigiD is already widely used for government and healthcare logins.

Can I verify Dutch EUDI Wallet credentials with Paradym?

Paradym supports verification flows for EUDI-style credentials. However, end-to-end testing with the national wallet depends on that wallet being available and exposing the relevant credentials, as there is currently no available Dutch wallet it is not possible to verify credentials from that wallet.

Can I issue credentials to the Netherlands EUDI Wallet with Paradym?

Paradym can issue standards-compliant EUDI credentials today, but those credentials cannot currently be issued into the Netherlands national wallet through a public production integration. Once Netherlands opens its issuer ecosystem as part of its EUDI rollout, Paradym's issuance APIs can be used to issue credentials to Netherlands wallet, subject to any national onboarding, trust framework, and certification requirements.

Do relying parties and issuers need to register to use the NL Wallet?

Yes. Under eIDAS 2.0, organisations that request data from the NL Wallet or issue attestations to it must register as a wallet-relying party in the register of their EU member state and obtain an access certificate and a registration certificate from a designated certificate provider. The Dutch register and certificate providers are still being set up. To test today, software developers with an assignment from a government organisation to trial the NL Wallet can apply to join the NL Wallet Community, which gives admitted members test environments, a test app and test data.

Is the NL Wallet compliant with eIDAS 2.0?

The NL Wallet is being built to meet the requirements of the eIDAS 2.0 regulation and the EUDI Wallet Architecture and Reference Framework. It is designed to meet assurance level high under eIDAS and will be independently assessed and certified. It is not certified yet, as the Dutch certification schemes were still being drafted and certification depends on the national implementing act.
